Fun Recess

Might be tough to believe but we were able to build this for in only 20 minutes today at recess. Have a fun and safe break!!!

Concert Day!!

Working with our high school teacher leaders

Once a week high school students come and work with our students. This week they have started working with small groups of students with focused learning. The students learned about sculpture, drawing, research about opossums, and team work. Great job everyone!

Becoming Engineers for the Day

Yesterday we started to get prepared for the video conference that we are doing with the Minnesota Zoo today.  We are getting pretty excited.  The activity we did yesterday was a challenge where we had to create a part of a zoo enclosure for a stuffed animal in the classroom.  This poor animal lived in an enclosure with alligators so we had to create a safe place  for that animal to live.  The rules were that the thing they built had to be 12 inches high and the stuffed animal had to be able to sit or lay on top to be safe. The supplies that the kids got were about 50 index cards and 12 inches of tape.  It was a very tough challenge.  We had a good time with it and learned a lot about engineering. 

Math This Morning

Good morning!  Today we have people going in and out for Math.  This is the day that we have groups going to do the vision and hearing screening.  I noticed that we cannot see the video on our iPads on this blog so I found a way to do it.  I created a new website called a WIKI.  on this site you will be able to see the video for today's math lesson.  Click the link below and watch the video called "Comparing Numbers".  When you are finished you can ask me questions or you can move right into page 8 in the practice book.

Recess

At recess we play games. Here are some games we have played.We have played Kick.Kick is a game that you get a ball and a couple of people and you just kick the ball around.I think it is fun because it is fun to kick the ball away from people and see who gets it.

We have also played Switch.Switch is a game that you need four square and there are five people or more.What you do is one person goes in the middle and four people in the corners.You play by the person in the middle calls out Switch and the people in the corners run to a different corner.It is the same with more than five people except instead of going in the middle when you don't get a corner you make a line and go to the end of the line.I like Switch because it is fun to see who gets out and to see who gets to a corner.

We have also played Drop That Straw.Drop That Straw is a game that you get a group of people and some people get a straw and some people don't.The people that don't have a straw tag the people that do have one then they say Drop That Straw then they have to drop the straw. Now the person that they tag has to tag someone.I think it is fun because I like to tag people and I like to say Drop that straw!!!those were all of the games we have played.

Our First 5 Weeks In School

On the first day of school I felt kind of nervous. I didn't know what we were going to do so I asked my mom what it felt like to be in school for another year. she said it feels new. So two weeks later I felt better. Then we started doing some cool stuff like IPADS,IPODS but we haven't done laptops yet. We even went on a nature hike pretty cool, eh? Also extra recess. My school year so far has bin the greatest one I've ever had.

Working with Kindergarteners

Today we went to Ms.Wyka's class to help out introducing them to iPods. The Kindergarteners had a fun time learning and the third graders learned that it can be fun to use the devices but more fun to share them. Enjoy the pictures!

Learning about Khan Academy

Today we made a account on Khan Academy. Khan Academy is a website that helps people with math. The person made videos. You can get badges and experience points so far I have 1065 experience points. I have no badges yet. The math we have done so far is place value, measurement,addition and subtraction. You can also have coaches. Mr.Melde is everybody’s coach. It is really fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rover

Rover is a search engine.  It lets us go on Funbrain.com because Safari doesn't work with Funbrain.  Don't worry!!!!  We are doing math on there.

Edmodo

Edmodo is like facebook for kids.  Edmodo is totally safe for kids to use in the classroom.  The only people allowed into our group are the people we invite.  We talk about how to write responsibly and be kind on the internet.

Khan Academy

There are Math Videos on this app.  We have looked at brain teasers, multiplication, graphing, and LOTS MORE!!!!!!
